County is red, school board is blue: In conservative Arundel, one Republican left on Board of Education The Capital (Annapolis, MD)
Anne Arundel County may run red during elections, but its school board has turned almost completely blue.
Just one Republican remains on the Board of Education; the other seven adult members are all registered Democrats. Even the student board member, who's too young to register and hasn't picked a party,said she supported President Barack Obama in 2008.

... the newest member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education said he will be a voice for public education.
"As a concerned citizen, I have as much of a stake as anyone else. I want to see kids prepared. I really don't see it as an `us vs. them' situation," said Bernson, a White House attorney who lives in Millersville. "We all want the very best for these kids. Education is the ticket to opportunity."

Q&A with Vic Bernson
As the representative for District 33 on the Anne Arundel County
Board of Education, Vic Bernson has been a strong advocate for local
families on issues involving their local public schools. He also serves
as a member of the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Mr. Bernson
just recently left the White House where he served for nearly four years
as the General Counsel for the Office of Administration under President
Bush. Vic and his wife, Helena, have two children and reside in
Millersville.
