  • Resident of Anne Arundel County for 11 years; settled here after serving nearly 10 years, mostly overseas, as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy

Navy Career

  • Served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, specializing in Operational and International Law
  • Spent 6 consecutive years overseas - 3 in the Philippines, and 3 in Italy
  • Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Naval War College, earning a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies
  • Spent 2 years on the Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63); including 6-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf
  • Honorably Discharged in 1998, quickly settling down in Shipley’s Choice, Millersville

Public Service

  • Joined the Department of Justice as an Attorney Advisor in the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, serving from 1998 -2001
  • After September 11, 2001, returned to the Pentagon as a political appointee in the Bush Administration, at first working in Secretary Rumsfeld’s office to help establish Military Commissions to try the Terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, and later promoted in 2002 to Legislative Counsel for the entire Department of Defense
  • Drafted 2 Defense Authorization Bills as well as designed and implemented complete overhaul of Defense legislative process; awarded Distinguished Public Service Medal by Secretary of Defense in 2004
  • Invited to join the Executive Office of the President in 2004 as General Counsel for the White House Office of Administration; served at the pleasure of President George W. Bush through 2007
  • Served as Counsel for Anne Arundel County GOP and President of Severna Park Elephant Club; recognized as Anne Arundel County GOP Man of the Year in 2000

Education Expertise

  • Served on Lt. Governor Michael Steele’s Blue Ribbon Commission to improve education opportunities throughout the State of Maryland (2003-04)
  • Nominated by Governor Ehrlich, and confirmed by the Maryland Senate, to serve as a member of Maryland Higher Education Commission (2004-06)
  • Currently serving in 4th year on the county Board of Education, as a tireless advocate for improved academic achievement, honest fiscal responsibility, and increased communication with parents (2006-Present)

Community Leadership

  • Long-time leader in the Boy Scouts, including Executive Board of Baltimore Area Council, and Chairman of 3-day event for 15,000 Scouts at Fort McHenry to celebrate 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts in 2010; Webelos Den Leader for 2 years; son, Bobby, recently achieved Eagle Scout
  • Served as Coach for Severna Park Green Hornets basketball and baseball teams
  • Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, National Rifle Association, and Knights of Columbus
  • Active Parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Severna Park
